Kamal Malik

Kamal Malik

Principal Architect, Malik Architecture

Kamal Malik, founder and principal architect of Malik Architecture, was born and raised in the hills of Simla, a place of stunning natural beauty; and to this day, nature remains the source of his inspiration.

He completed his Architectural studies at the School of Planning and Architecture (S.P.A.) in New Delhi. His architecture is a fine blend of engineering and the arts.

He is a follower of the Patanjali School of yoga, and the concept of time, of continuity, of reflection, and of silence provides him with a theoretical underpinning, through which a syntax of metaphors is developed, allowing him, through his work, to comment on subjects ranging from urban decay and regeneration to the more abstract and intangible notions of homogeneity and purity, and contradiction and chaos.

Also an avid reader, he believes that the mind imbibes at various levels. The inspiration is out there somewhere- you cannot create a single leaf.

In his own words:

Architecture is not a standalone object floating in ether, it is in an environment, in a context, and all these things apply forces on it. One has to be open to them to find answers.
Architecture needs to be humane and to address the human spirit.

His firm has won numerous design competitions as well as National and International awards; & all projects designed by his practice have been published worldwide.

He has delivered lectures on diverse subjects.

For him, poetry in architecture is timeless.
